The Benefits of a Class C Motorhome

2 October, 2008 (09:00) | RVs

Because the Class C motorhome is basically a more petite replica of the Class A vehicle, it is regularly referred to as a mini-motorhome. There are a few differences besides size which we will discuss later. The Class C motorhome can give you much of the comfort of a Class A but at greatly reduced cost.

The driver’s area of a Class C is more like that of a standard automobile, truck, or van. In fact, the majority of the Class C’s on the market are built on a cutaway chassis with driver and passenger side doors.

The cab-over design is another distinguishing feature of the Class C motorhome. Usually this is a place to sleep. This might be one reason the Class C is not the most acclaimed style of RV, because getting into the bed requires one to be a bit spry. The good part about Class C motorhomes is that many of their auto parts are widely available at auto stores and dealerships.

Sizes range from 20 to 35 feet with the more popular models in the 30 foot range. Since Class C’s are constructed now on a more higher rated chassis, some manufacturers are offering floor plans similar to those offered by Class A manufacturers in which full-size beds are built in to coincide with the cab-overs. Prices range between $45,000 and $100,000 with the average around $68,000.

The Class C motorhome has become more popular in the current market, which has caused the luxury and amenities to increase. Even though a Class C motorhome is smaller than a Class A, you can still get the same kind of quality.

Some of the improvements in the amenities include a fuller kitchen and bath area similar to what is available with the Class A’s. Most of the models that are on the market will now have sleeping areas that will accommodate from 2-6 people.

There are two separate reasons that manufacturers have in mind when building Class C’s. One is the long weekend trip that would be taken by a family with no more than four people. A couple could also use a Class C motorhome to take a longer vacation without losing the comforts of home.

Even though a Class C will not have the extravagant luxury or the large space of a Class A, it will offer you quite a boost, and not just in the initial cost of the purchase. A Class C will burn less gas, which is a big benefit as gas hovers near $4 per gallon.

The Class C motorhome can be easily parked in small areas, and it offers a more limber maneuverability than other, larger options. You can also get a price break on the registration fees and insurance costs.

Whether you are looking at Class A or Class C motorhomes, you should think hard about a few final things. No motorhome will be worth buying if you don’t actually get out and use it. Finally, any RV purchase should be examined to make sure it measures up to your wants and needs.
