Ford Finally Makes a Hybrid Worth Buying

Honda and Toyota have had the midsized market all to themsleves with their entries; the Camry and the Accord, since Ford has dropped the Taurus from their line.The Ford Fusion has been around since 2006 but is now modified with the new Hybrid power plant system from Ford.The Fusion Hybrid was finally revieled at the Los Angeles Auto Show in late 2008.The excellent in-town gas mileage is what makes the Ford Fusion Hybrid so unique.Driving the Fusion Hybrid around town will net you over 40 miles per gallon which far outshines the Camry and even the fuel efficient civic hybrid.Without any help from the internal combustion engine, the electric engine can push the Fusion up to 47 MPH.It has been written about and this system has been used by many to get better MPG than the EPA says are possible.

By using new technology, the Fusion can help drivers know which driving style recieves the best fuel economy.  They have created an ingenious system which is built into the instrument cluster called the SmartGauge.The driver is innundated with info from the dual data monitors next to the gauge cluster.The driver can see the amount of gasoline and the amount of electric charge left in the batteris through the 1st info screen.The second gauge tells which mode the car in in; electric or hybrid, and it also shows the RPM’s.This third gauge displays the output energy of the batteries and the engine.The last data screen displays power to the wheels and additional accessory power consumption.All display screens show fuel efficiency, MPG record, voyage account, and changes in coolant temps.A real time MPG information gauge easily displays to drivers which driving style would be best for fuel economy.

The navigation system also houses the Hybrid Energy Flow Display.These smart gauges will display the different features of the hybrid powerplant including the 2 drives (electric and hybrid), the boost, charging while idle, and of course regenerative braking.

Seperating itself from the hybrid pack, the Fusion has seats made from reclaimed fabric.The Prius and the Civic Hybrid are two of the most popular cars out today, its about time Ford designed a hybrid car.

The 2009 SUV Infiniti FX35 – Best in its Class

The 2010 Toyota Prius – Bigger, Yet More Frugal!

Hybrids have a new pinnacle of technology in the 2010 Prius. The Prius continually gets the best gas mileage of all hybrids today.The Prius gets a 1.The Prius has a new larger engine.5L.Due to the increase of torque, the larger engine in the new Prius has better fuel economy.The 2010 Prius has gained some more muscle in the form of 50 extra horsepower. 

The 2010 Toyota Prius should get right about 50 MPG; which is up 4 MPG from its predecessor.The EPA rates the Prius at 50 MPG, but there are many who get more than that!A lighter body translates to better fuel economy. Engine noise and vibration are reduced thanks to a stiffer chassis.

In redesigning the Prius, engineers have successfully improved the steering by angling the wheels slightly and creating brake discs at all four corners. The 2010 Prius comes stock with some features that you had to pay for on previous models such as: air, CD Stereo, power locks, and windows. A remote air conditioner, LED headlights, rearview camera system, and XM radio are all new accessories available on the new Prius.

Energy usually wasted by braking is used to charge the battery pack. The new Prius is at the top of the compact car class in regards to safety. Other oddities in the Prius are warning systems with lane departure, rearview cameras, and monitors that check your tire pressure`.

The Battle of the 2010 Hybrids

Honda has officially released the new Insight.Costing over ,000; the new Prius is a couple of grand more than the new kid on the block; the Insight. The lower MSRP earns the 2010 Insight the title of most affordable hybrid in the U.S. 

The Eco Assist feature will improve fuel economy be making sure that the driver does not accelerate too much and therefore waste gas.The ECO socring helps the drive to have a system that allows for the best fuel economy, which is related back to the operator in the form of a miles per gallon readout.The Insight uses the latest hybrid motor techniology called the IMA or integrated motor assist.   This system in the next generation hybrids from Honda are greatly improved and result in reduced weight, cost savings, and greater cabin space. The Honda sports a VTEC motor that is connected to an automatic transmission.The Insight has some great accessories that can be added onto the base model such as: a Blue Tooth six-speaker sound system, rims, vehicle control assist, F-1 inspired paddle shifters, and a navigation system. The Toyota has been the reigning king of the hybrid market for years now, but with the low price of the Insight, Honda is aiming to take away that title. 

Opposed to the Insight is the Prius with a 160-hp 1.8L engine and features three different driving modes. Those include ECO mode, which allows more of less pedal responsiveness for fuel economy, the EV mode that allows the vehicle to run only on battery power for ½ mile, and the Power Mode which increases pedal sensitivity for more responsive driving.An accessory on the Prius that is aimed at driver safety is called the precollision system.  This system comes equipped with a radar that constantly measures the distance of the car ahead and presumably adjusts brake pressure when probability of frontal collision is high. Toyota has added some buttons to the wheel to make the driving experience a bit more safe.

When it comes to price the Insight is hands down the winner, but the gas mileage rating is another story altogether.Right now the MPG ratings for the new Insight are at 40 MPG in the city and 43 MPG on the highway, and the Prius comes in at 48 MPG city and 45 MPG on the highway.Traveling more than 20,000 miles in only 365 days (when gas is .50 a gallon), owning the Honda would cost 19 in gas per year and owning a Prius would cost 86 per year. Rolling around in a Toyota Prius will save over 50 gallons of gas per year as compared to the Honda, but it would take 27 years of driving to recoup the lower cost of the Insight.Ok the Prius gets way better fuel economy, yet the Insight makes up the difference with its low starting price!
