Understanding the concept of counter steering is necessary to preventing a loss of control. The main culprit in turning accidents is a lack of understanding of basic physics. Essentially, the concept of counter steering involves leaning the motorcycle away from the turn direct to shift the pivot point out from under the center of the cycle’s mass. This requires turning away from the direction you want to turn in. Without proper instruction, this can be very counter-intuitive to amateur riders.
