I Want The Best Doll House On Earth!
Imagine having a house of your own as a child! No, I am not talking of a real house, but a large doll house made of wood! Many girls and even boys wish to have such a plaything! As a matter of fact, if a child is allowed to take charge of decisions concerning organization or furnishing and decorating of this play house, it builds up his/her creative skills. The child also learns about family and other people. If nothing else, there could be entertainment with the help of stories involving the people in the doll house.
A doll house cannot be created unless it follows some model that already exists. So manufacturers look to real houses all around the world, for their ideas. Among the many styles of house construction that can be seen globally, a few have captured the imagination of these manufacturers and are more popular. These range from Colonial-type houses to Victorian and Georgian, from American Farm Houses to English Tudor.
A Victorian home is an elaborate two-story home that often came with an attic on the unfinished third floor. Named after Queen Anne who loved things to look regal, Queen Anne Victorian homes had a number of large windows, fancy curved wrap-around porches, irregular rooflines, and towers on the upper corner of the house. On the outside, these homes showcased exquisite millwork and latticework skirting. The open areas under the porches were also finished with the latticework skirting. Children love wood doll house models that are created to look like Victorian homes. The large rooms allow for entertaining and the upstairs contain many bedrooms to fit larger families.
Despite the popularity of Victorian-style homes, children in the Eastern sector love colonial houses. These are spacious, two-storied constructions with a large amount of living space. This is possible because of their rectangular shapes and the standard way of keeping bedrooms on the first floor and living rooms downstairs. So, the price paid for such a home is definitely worth it!
Just like Colonial homes, Georgian houses also have a large living space, making them convenient for entertaining. They are also rectangular in shape. The difference lies in the fact that a Georgian home exterior is like a mirror image–one side is exactly the same as the other. This is because on either side there are borders consisting of huge brick or stone chimneys. Thus, they are grander than colonial houses.
The simplest of them all is the American Farm House! They are in the form of an L or a T. This is so because the main portion of the house is constructed first and then it is extended at the back in the shape of an L or a T. The reason is to get more living space, that is all. Just like in other houses, the bedrooms are situated at the top. The downstairs portion consists of the living room, dining room, kitchen and bathroom. Manufacturers find these type of houses the easiest to construct.
The English Tudor doll house kit is a far more expensive than the others, but the look is fabulous! Narrow windows and parapets, large stone chimneys, timber lines on the stone walls, cross-hatching near the roof line—these are part of this two-storeyed construction. Like all other houses, the bedrooms are upstairs. The downstairs consist of guest rooms and living space. Whatever, children would love to be the owners of this magnificent doll house!
Include your child in decision making. After all, he/she is going to be the owner of the house! And they love to feel important. Plus you go up in their eyes for asking their opinion. The play house therefore seems like a wonderful gift of love for the child!
