Auto Insurance Policy — Isn’t It Cheaper To Drive Without It?

22 August, 2008 (06:23) | Cars

An auto insurance policy is, no doubt, a burden to most. Some folks insist on being without it. But is this a wise path to take? This article will help you make more informed choices…

1. If you decide NEVER to drive then you’ll never be a law-breaker even without auto insurance coverage. However, think of emergency and other situations that will put you in an awkward position if you limit yourself this way.

2. Some folks insist on driving without an auto insurance policy even though they know it’s against the law. When they get caught, this could have dire consequences on their lives afterwards.

In mild cases such people get to pay hefty fines along with a suspension/revocation of their registration or license. For those who get the worse deal, they spend some time behind bars.

3. Even if the law didn’t make an auto insurance policy mandatory, imagine would be your lot if your car is hit by another uninsured motorist. Consider also what would happen if you car is stolen, damaged or totaled. With the right amount of coverage, you’ll have little to worry about.

4. What happens if there are liability claims against you? I hope you know that lawyers can go after your investments to get reasonable compensation for their clients. How do you think the judge will treat your case when it’s proven that you’re uninsured?

Need I say more? The few reasons I’ve given so far do show how important an auto insurance policy is. If you’re bothered about high rates, here are ways to cut down costs…

1. Get the minimum required by your state especially if yours is an old car. Although this might NOT give you the best coverage, it will, at least, keep you on the right side of the law.

This advice is NOT valid if yours is a new car. In this case you’ll need comprehensive, collision and uninsured motorist coverage to really protect yourself adequately. What you can reduce to the barest minimum is the liability part of your auto insurance policy.

You’re, however, advised to buy an umbrella policy. It will give you an even more extensive coverage from liability claims. In addition, it costs far less.

2. While you take every other step to reduce your rate, don’t forget that the surest way to pay less is to do thorough comparison shopping…

All you’ll have to do is fill a simple questionnaire at each site. For this, you’ll get five or more quotes from different A rated insurers. Do this over and over again with different insurers until you find a deal that gives you the right coverage at an affordable rate.
